Snuggled against the heart of the Northern Alps around the Mont Blanc, the tallest European mountain, Chamonix offers a long ski season from December to May. Known for being the world capital of winter sports and off-trailing, its numerous ski areas allow every skier to find something that suits their level in this large domain.
Skiers and surfers can get a taste of the trails at famous spots and at exceptionally uneven runs that have given Grands-Montets its reputation of a prestigious ski area that is internationally renowned. The variety of its routes, the length of its trails split up on three sides: the Argentière, Lognan and Pendant glaciers, their uneven terrain (maximum altitude at 3,300 m) and the exceptional quality of the snow until the month of May partially on the glacier..., all make this a skiing paradise.
Facing toward the south, the Brévent Domain - Flégère (1,050 to 2,525 m) is accessible from the village of Praz, offering exceptional skiing as well, in front of the Mont-Blanc massif and other superb Chamonix peaks. These trails offer varied skiing fulfilling the expectations of all skiers.
To get used to and progress in your skiing, the Vormaine (1,480m) offers an ideal ski area for children and beginner surfers. There's a children's playground for the smaller children available. Les Chosalets (1230m), Le Savoy (1049 - 1125 m) and les Planards (1062 - 1242 m) are also domains adapted as well to beginner skiers.
Cross country skiing in the heart of the valley is available both at Argentière and at Chamonix, ski trails and alpine skiing on Mont Blanc near the time of Spring, exceptional glacial routes await you and will allow you to take a closer look all the great mythical summits of the massif: Mont Blanc, Grandes Jorasses, Aiguille Verte, Droites...
Those who wish to make an unforgettable memory as Spring approaches, try out the most famous hikes: 5 days crossing over the Alps getting from Chamonix to Zermatt.
Want to take a stroll and admire your surroundings? Find the authenticity of the mountains with a simple pair of snow shoes. The valley offers a large number of hikes for every level, for a full day, half day, or even at night ! In the forests, in the mountain pastures, as well as on the glaciers in the heart of the Mont Blanc's massif, either in medium-altitude or high mountains, everyone can comfortably enjoy a bit of the quietness and magic of winter.
Night trips are also an opportunity to share a typical Savoie meal after a hike by the light of a headlamp...or by moonlight !
Chamonix is also composed of 17 kilometers of well kept and marked pedestrian paths to be able to fully enjoy nautre in all its diversity. You'll be able to take the marked path in Flégère between the bottom of the cable car and the bottom of the chair lifts from Trappe, or at Grands Montets, you can take the road that connects Plan Joran to la Pendant.

The legend of back country skiing in Chamonix was born in the within the boundaries of the glaciers, where the uneven snow never seems to end. The Blanche Valley, the Pas de chèvre, the Rognons glacier, the many fabulous sites attract freeride lovers every year. These off-trail glaciers are extremely visited in the beginning of Spring, where you'll find quite a lot of high mountain routes with the presence of a high mountain guide, which is strongly recommended. As backcountry skiing requires experience, knowledge of the surroundings and skill, with your guides, you'll limit the risk of danger and you'll be able to experience the high of the powdery snow as you'll ski at this legendary run... Further down, THE descent, 23 km of skiing at the heart of the massif on secret routes far away from the crowds. Set up by your guide or instructor, you'll go along the inclines of the glacier, before taking the path between the seracs, towards the Requin refuge. A panoramic vision to see... The Mont-Blanc, Aiguilles du Diable, Jorasses, Drus, l'Aiguille Verte ; dazzled, you'll get lost in the magic of these places. A must see! A specialized instructor will also accompany you in cross country skiing or snowshoeing off the beaten paths in the middle of breath-taking landscapes. Peaceful walks or exploring winter mountain life give non-skiers a chance to enjoy the mountains as snowshoeing doesn't require much technique nor particular phsycial conditions. |

Ski lessons The Megève ESF instructors conduct private and small group lessons for children 4 and older in numerous languages and also conduct full day training sessions : - From 3 to 12 year olds, group lessons in the kids playground for a half or full day with tests until the Etoile de bronze. - From 8 to 12 year olds having earned your medal, from the second Etoile until the Etoile d'Or. - Starting at 13 years old, kids can discover or progress in snowboarding safely and easily. - Starting at 12 years old, a competitive course over 6 days is offered for children having earned the Flèche de Bronze and they can take down a selection of national exams to get their Etoile d'Or and Coq d'Or. - Freestyle skiing for Flèche de bronze level skiers: learn your first figures in confidence and learn how to progress in the safety of a non-glacial back country zone while trying out and taking advantage of the variety of natural bumps, reliefs, and ledges.www.esfchamonix.com |
Activities
Piou Piou Club Le Savoy and Les Planards : set up by ESF instructors, children from 3 to 4 years old can safely discover the joys of skiing. Everything is organized so that skiing can be fun and a game for your kids ! Discovery activities and skiing are in the program with a direct access to equipment such as beginner ski tows and rope tows.
There are blue and green trails as well as a protected fun space available for your children.
Kids' snowshoe excursions: the Ski School of Chamonix offers snowshoe adventures for children.
