The Provence is a diverse region full of character, sunshine, blue skies and lavender fields. The blue fields, bathed in a soft perfume are unique to this region : the Provence.
Between mid-June and mid-August you can experience the great joy of seeing the lavender fields in flower and the landscape flooded in a unique mauve blue colour, reminiscent of a postcard image. At this time, you will have the opportunity to participate in « la fête de la lavande » on the 15th August, attend the harvest and get to know the process of distillation.
Before leaving, make sure you bring back a little of the soft perfume in your suitcases, by honouring the tradition of using it to perfume your washing or your bath water. Throughout your stay, you can also discover its cuisine as it produces lavender honey, one of the most distinctive honey flavours.
This beautiful region is no less generous when it comes to food. In Spring, there are Carpentras strawberries, cherries and asparagus ; in summer, Cavaillon melon, peaches, apricots, cherries and tomatoes; grapes in autumn, olives in winter, not to mention the Truffles.
All these regional products can be found in the numerous markets in the picturesque Provincial villages. They are artistically used in Provincial recipes, which you can taste in the numerous Michelin starred restaurants in the region. You will be treated to delicious cuisine which is reminiscent of the South, flavoured with the herbs of Provence such as thyme, rosemary, savory and oregano.

Your meal will undoubtedly be accompanied by a glass of one of the famous grand cru of the region - as the old saying goes "Journée sans vin, journée sans soleil" ("A day without wine is a day without sunshine"). The region is rich with vineyards known all over the world - where you can visit directly to see the caves and taste the wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Beaumes-de-Venise...another reason to visit this region!
Whatever means of transport you use for your visit, bike for the sportier visitors, or equally a minibus or a private vehicle, you must stop in the incredible villages with their narrow roads, many of which are perched on a clifftop, and 7 of which are listed amoung « the most beautiful villages in France ».
Dominating the villages is either a Roman or Gothic church, whose campanile you can admire from afar, a forged iron cage which has decorated clock-towers since the 16th century, aswell as the magnificent ancient château. These offer visitors a heritage of a history of which one can almost hear the distant murmur while you walk around the relics and admire the incredible views from the plains or the hillsides. In each village, places decorated with fountains, under the shade of plane trees, are meeting places as well as walkways : you can play bowls there, drink a pastis on a café terrace, have a chat and listen to the regional expressions. It's here that you find the real Provincial art de vivre : an art that involves taking your time and is perfect for those who like a leisurely existence as the art de vivre in Provance includes the inevitable siesta - either under the shade of a plane tree to the sound of the cicadas or in a cool Provincial country house.
