At an altitude of  2300 meters, in the High Alps, located at the gates of Ecrins National Park, Serre Chevalier Valley invites you to ski in a ski area of impressive dimensions. It's a huge ski terrain that's fun, innovatively modern, well perserved and accessible to all. With 250 km of runs, Serre Chevalier Valley is one of the Alps' biggest ski areas, and offers runs adapted to each form of skiing, from peaceful skiing in larch forests, from skiing in specially designed areas for families to renown off ski areas.

At Serre Chevalier you'll find untouched snow in these wide-open spaces that will give you a foretaste of the off-piste or backcountry. After each snowfall the slopes are left in naturally fallen state to give skiers who love the powder natural and safe conditions for skiing. In a place where safety is key, skiers can get familiar with the different types of danger of the mountain by getting trained to use the ARVA (avalanche transceivers : search tools for finding avalanche victims) by looking for hidden beacons under the snow.

Serre Chevalier, which is found at the gates of the Ecrins National Park, invites you to take ballads and meditate. Take the snowy paths that go through the whole valley of Serre Chevalier for almost 25 km. Pedestrian routes, some made just for families and babies in strollers that will allow you to explore the villages there : Saint-Chaffery, Chantemerle, Villeneuve and le Monêtier les Bains, which are listed as UNESCO's world heritage sites.

Lessons and Ski Guiding

Reserve your Alpine skiing lessons for beginners as well as competitive skiers for snowboarding, freestyle skiing, Telemark skiing, snow-skating, carving, and cross-country skiing at the Serre Chevalier ESF at www.esf-serrechevalier1500.com. Don't forget to make your reservations in advance, especially for school holiday periods.

Serre Chevalier Valley offers amateur skiers a chance to freeride on a vaste playing field. There's something for everyone...forests, lanes, dales and valleys. From nearby backcountry skiing to dedicated trail runs, everyone can find something that suits them. As back country skiing requires experience, the presence of a high mountain guides or a ski instructors is strongly recommended. With your guides, you'll limit the risk of danger and you'll be able to experience the high of the powdery snow on the secret routes away from the crowds. They'll show you the dales of la Cucumelle, Tabuc, the Cibouit forest, the lanes of la Balme...

Snowkites : An outstanding site is dedicated to this activity at Col du Lautaret. The best French and international snowkiters comme to train here during the whole season and create quite the show for people passing by. A school founded in Serre Chevalier offers introductory and advanced-level training courses set up by State certified professionals. From the first wing handling to the tractor-drawn excursions in the mountains, instructors will guide you during the length of your training course. Kites, harnesses, helmets and radios are all provided.

Serre Chevalier is one of the stations certified as Famille Plus. Here kids are treated like kings!
We find you an experienced nanny who can speak the language of your choice to take care of your children and we gladly organize sports activities and cultural indoor (fun hands-on activities, reading, singing,..) and outdoor activities (sledding, tobogganing,...) for your children of 18 months to 3 years old, a half-day or full-day.

The Serre Chevalier ESF instructors conduct private and small group lessons (10 person limit) for children 4 and older in numerous languages as well as full day training sessions :

-         Children 3 and older can attend group ski lessons in the kindergarten and Ourson and Flocon test. Children 4 to 12 can prepare for their first Etoile up until the Etoile d'Or.

-         Freeriding and Freestyle skiing training courses are available for children 10 years over 3 or 6 days.

-         Junior competition training courses for 1, 3 and 6 days for a half day or full day are available including Etoile d'Or test.

-         Half day and full day competition training courses are also offered for children. At least an Flèche de bronze and Chamois de bronze is required.


Activities

Club Mini & Piou Piou Club (Chantemerle,Villeneuve, Monêtier) : Set up by ESF instructors, children from 3 to 35 months old can safely discover the joys of skiing in optimal conditions of safety and learning.

Snow parks for kids : Situated at the bottom of the Pré-Chabert slopes are equipped and secured areas for children 3 and older.

Night Skiing : An easy green trail ideal for kids is open from 5pm to 9pm.

Sledding zones : There are sledding zones especially fitted for the little ones in Chantemerle, in Villeneuve and in Le Monêtier Les Bains.

Snowmobiling : A circuit for children from 5 to 10 is available at Villeneuve during french holidays.

Snow Grooming School & Night Snow Grooming :Drivers from 16 years old and older will enjoy discovering how to drive this impressive machine in a secured area at the heart of the runs. At night fall, the ski resort invites you to take a trip on the slopes and mountain peaks from sunset into the night.
