At an altitude of 2300 meters, Val Thorens is the station at the highest elevation in Europe and is the culmination of the largest ski area in the world, the 3 Valleys Domain (600 km of slopes).

Between the powdery fields and perfectly snow packed slopes, the snow's quality is guaranteed in this ski area situated at 99% between an altitude of 2000 m and 3230 m.

Val Thorens' village life is highly attractive, whether it's its warm and friendly cosmopolitan atmosphere or its how the environment is well-dressed in a traditional Savoie style with stone and wood covered chalets that make up its authentic and picturesque character to the entire 3 Valleys Domain.

Want to take a stroll and meditate? Take the pedestrian paths "Plein Sud" (Facing South) for 2 km departing from Val Thorens towards the direction of Ménuires, this magnificent and sunny road offers an incomparable view over the Vallée des Belleville. (Duration: 1.5 hours round trip). You can also get to Cime Marron at an altitude of 3200 m by taking the Cairn and Caron gondolas then by taking the Cime Caron cable-carcable-car. Take in the view at one of the most grandiose panoramic sights in Europe at the summit of the French, Italian, and Swiss Alps.

There you'll find a viewpoint finder to help you point out Mont Blanc, Mont Brequin, Péclet glacier and its Aiguilles (peaks), La Meije, and the Arves Peaks. (Duration: 2 hours round trip)

You'll be able to recharge at the restaurant "L'Etape 3200".

A pedestrian pass will give you access to the cable cars at different starting points in the valley and will make it easier for you to get back to the station.

Another way to explore the mountains is hiring high mountain guides as well as ski instructors to take you on exceptional excursions daily, from beginners to experts.

Discover the glacial zones of Vanoise, one of the most beautiful trails of the 3 Valleys domain and the immense side of Maurienne. Day hikes and several day treks are also offered. We strongly recommend hiring a ski instructor or a high mountain guide to accompany you to best initiate or help ameliorate your back country skiin in the biggest ski area in the world as back country skiing requires experience, knowledge of the surroundings and skill.

With your guides, you'll limit the risk of danger and you'll be able to experience the high of the powdery snow on the secret routes away from the crowds.

With the help of your guide, you'll be able to gain confidence and skill as well as explore the most beautiful paths. They'll also introduce you to the joy of heliskiing from the Alps until you reach Italy followed by the wild Ride on the slopes of Mont Miravidi, Mont Ouille, Mont Freduaz, Pic Lechaud, and Mont Fortin, at the bottom of Mont Blanc.

A specialized instructor can also accompany you in cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the powder, in the middle of breath-taking landscapes. Non-skiers can also enjoy snowshoeing very easily since it doesn't require much technique nor particular phsycial conditions.

Travelling with children ?
No problem
On demand, we'll take care of finding you an experienced nanny who can speak the language of your choice, to take care of your children of 3 months and older. We'll gladly organize sports activities as well as cultural indoor (fun hands-on activities, reading, singing, movies...) and outdoor activities (sledding and different snow games, tobogganing, going on walks in the garden...) for your children of 18 months to 3 years old, a half-day or full-day.

Ski lessons

 

The ESF instructors of Val Thorens will be conducting private and small group lessons for children 4 and older
in numerous languages and will also be conducting full
day training sessions :

-         Children 4 and older can attend group ski lessons
in the kindergarten and test for their Ourson and Flocon. Children 4 to 12 can prepare for their first Etoile up until
the Etoile d'Or.
-         Competition training courses for 5 and 6 days for half day or full days are offered including testing for Flèche and Chamois. Junior competition courses are offered for children 8 and above with at least an Etoile


Activities

Piou Piou : For children 3 to 4 years  old, everything is organized so that the sport of skiing can be something truly enjoyable and safe, a fun game for your kids!  Introductory activities for skiing are all in the program. A learning course, carousel or moving sidewalk... (More or less 45 mins of skiing). An interior area also allows the children to rest, to have lunch or simply to play inside in case of bad weather (snow, wind...).

Club Mini : Set up by ESF instructors, children from 3 to 35 months old can safely discover the joys of skiing thanks to 2 kids parks adapted and made safe for an introduction to skiing in optimal conditions of safety and learning.
